In general, adding value to a product is the process of changing or transforming a product from its original state to a more valuable form. Value added production is an emerging food trend with the potential to help grow the local economy and support farmers' livelihood by tapping new revenue streams and thereby preserving the 'peak of harvest' that might get wasted otherwise. The value addition in coconut, sesame, mushroom, fruits, vegetables, tubers etc. will provide additional income to the farmers. For women, these events while doing household activities will not only provide them additional household income but also engage them in women involved development initiatives.
The financial and infrastructural support for setting up small value addition units can be availed from the Department of Agriculture, Industries Department, Agricultural Technology Management Agency, local Government bodies and scheduled banks.
A group of farmers of Bharanickavu Panchayat is setting up a small scale unit for value addition to the turmeric with the technical support of Krishi Vignyan Kendra, (KVK), Kayamkulam and the financial support of NABARD. There already exists a turmeric powder manufacturing unit in Bharanickavu Panchayat and a fruit processing unit (Thanima) in Paalamel Panchayat, managed by some self-help women’s’ groups. Mrs Rama Unnikrishnan of Karippalakizhakathil, a house wife from Nooranad, successfully runs a small scale unit for making by-products from jackfruits and other vegetables. She is presently the member of Bharanickavu Block Panchayat.Fruit and flower decoration is a value addition agri-business which young ladies can take up at home.
മൂല്യവർധിത ഉത്പ്പന്നങ്ങൾ
ഒരു ഉത്പന്നത്തെ അതിൻ്റെ സാധാരണ അവസ്ഥയിൽനിന്നും വിലകൂടിയ മറ്റൊരു ഉത്പന്നമായി മാറ്റുന്നതിനെയാണ് മൂല്യവർധനം എന്ന പദംകൊണ്ട് വിവക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്. സാധാരണ കൃഷിയിടങ്ങളിൽ വിളവെടുപ്പ്കാലത്തു ധാരാളമായി ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന ഉത്പന്നങ്ങൾ വിറ്റഴിക്കാൻ പറ്റാതെ വരിക, വിലകുറയുക എന്നീ സന്ദർഭങ്ങളിൽ മൂല്യവർധനം നടത്തുകവഴി അതിനെ പുതിയൊരുത്പന്നമാക്കി കൂടുതൽ കാലത്തേക്ക് വിപണനം ചെയ്ത് ലാഭമുണ്ടാക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നതാണ്.
നാളികേരം, എള്ള്, കൂൺ, പഴവർഗങ്ങൾ, പച്ചക്കറികൾ, കിഴങ്ങുവർഗങ്ങൾ എന്നിവകൊണ്ട് ധാരാളം മൂല്യവർധിത ഉത്പന്നങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കി കൃഷിക്കാർക്ക് അധികമായ വരുമാനം നേടാവുന്നതാണ്. സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് ഗൃഹജോലിക്കിടെ ഒഴിവുസമയത്ത് ഇത്തരം പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിൽ ഏർപ്പെട്ടാൽ അധികവരുമാനത്തിനു പുറമെ സമൂഹത്തിലൊരു കുലീന സ്ഥാനം നേടുവാനും അവർക്കു സാധിക്കും.
സംസ്ഥാന കൃഷിവകുപ്പ്, വ്യവസായവകുപ്പ്, ആത്മ (ATMA), തദ്ദേശസ്വയംഭരണ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ .ചെറുകിട മൂല്യവർധന യൂണിറ്റുകൾ സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള അടിസ്ഥാന സൗകര്യങ്ങളും, സാമ്പത്തിക സഹായങ്ങളും നൽകിവരുന്നുണ്ട്.
ആലപ്പുഴ KVK-യുടെ സാങ്കേതിക സഹായത്തോടെയും NABARD-ൻറെ സാമ്പത്തിക സഹായത്തോടെയും. ഭരണിക്കാവ് പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ കാർഷികകൂട്ടായ്മ മഞ്ഞളിൽനിന്നും മൂല്യവർധിത ഉത്പന്നങ്ങൾ നിര്മിക്കുന്നതിനുവേണ്ടി ഒരു ചെറുകിട വ്യവസായ സംരംഭം ആരംഭിക്കാൻ തയ്യാറെടുക്കുന്നു. വനിതാ സ്വയംസഹായ സംഘങ്ങൾ ഭരണിക്കാവ് പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ ഒരു മഞ്ഞൾപൊടി യൂണിറ്റും, പാലമേൽ പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ ഒരു പഴം-പച്ചക്കറി സംസ്കരണ യൂണിറ്റും ഇപ്പോൾ നടത്തി വരുന്നുണ്ട്. നൂറനാട് പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ ശ്രീമതി രാമഉണ്ണിക്കൃഷ്ണൻ ചക്കകൊണ്ടുള്ള മൂല്യവർധിത ഉത്പന്നങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കിക്കൊണ്ടു എല്ലാവർക്കും മാതൃകയായിരിക്കുകയാണ്. അവരിപ്പോൾ ഭരണിക്കാവ് ബ്ലോക്ക് പഞ്ചായത്ത് മെമ്പർ ആണ്.
സ്വന്തം പുരയിടത്തിലെ പഴങ്ങളും പച്ചക്കറികളും അലങ്കാരവസ്തുവാക്കിയും മൂല്യവര്ധന നടത്താവുന്നതാണ്.
